When is the last time that
your body had the space to speak?

What does your body need to
express, release, feel, create?

Do you speak the language of
your root?

Are you embodied in your pelvis?

Where is your center of gravity
within your body?

Take a moment to notice what these questions bring up for you.

Let’s consider,

· Most of our body, movement and exercise education is based on the male body, where the center of gravity is the chest rather than the pelvis.

· Most of us received little to no education on where and what the uterus is, let-alone how to care for it.

· Mothers in the U.S. are offered little to no integrative, pelvic support pre or post pregnancy and birth, with any birth outcome.

· Cultural shame and lack of information around menstruation and sexuality creates a blank spot in our body maps of the pelvis and genitals—the root.

· Ancestral trauma and systemic oppression keeps us disconnected from our bodies through making us feel like our bodies are inherently bad, dirty, etc.

· Fear of the Earth separates us from our animal bodies.

SOMATIC BODY MAPS

We will map the anatomy of the pelvic bowl together. You will learn where things are in relationship to one another in the pelvic bowl and begin to connect with your own pelvic bowl through this mapping. You will learn important pelvic landmarks for getting oriented to your pelvis and begin to cultivate the felt-sense of connection to your bowl.

PELVIC ATTUNEMENT & ROOT INTEROCEPTION

Interoception is our somatic sense of what we are feeling internally. It can be related to temperature, hunger, pain and pleasure but also is a vital part of our ability to know where we feel safe, what we like and how we feel about something. When we cultivate interoception in our pelvis we are strengthening our relationship to our center-of-gravity and increasing our ability to feel at home in our bodies and on the Earth.

MOVEMENT, SELF-MASSAGE & BREATH

Through hands-on and real-time exploration you will deepen understanding of: the relationship between your upper body and lower body (the pelvic bowl and the thorax), the connection between the respiratory diaphragm and the pelvic diaphragm (pelvic floor), the connection between your jaw and your hips / your throat and your vagina. All of our practices and explorations will be in service to an integrate felt-sense of your pelvic bowl in relationship to your whole body as well as your energetic root.

 An important note:

In Root Embodiment we will work with the fascia, the nervous system, the diaphragms of the body, the belly, the womb* the vulva, the vagina, pelvic diaphragm and pelvic bowl through somatic awareness and exploration, embodiment practices and interoceptive cultivation, anatomy teachings, movement and more.

As a trauma-trained practitioner, a central value in group work is to always offer trauma-informed and nervous system aware spaces. It feels important to name that this space is specifically for those who feel ready to contact their root—through somatic awareness, movement, breath and perhaps self-touch if that feels available.

While you will be reminded and encouraged to go at the pace of your nervous system, please keep in mind that this is a group space. I will not be able to offer 1:1 support within this group offering. I am available for 1:1 support outside of and adjacent to our Root Embodiment group classes.

If you are feeling called to Root Embodiment, yet think you might need more time and spaciousness in how you approach them, 1:1 somatic sessions might be more suited for you at this time.

*You do not need to have a physical uterus in order to participate. We follow the East Asian Medicine belief that Organs have a physical as well as energetic form, and even if the physical form is not present we can work with the energetic form.

Community Reflection

“Root Embodiment Immersion supported me to deepen my appreciation for the energetic and anatomical wisdom of my pelvic bowl, after a long period of estrangement from this part of my body. The series helped me to connect with my purpose and values as they align with the potency of the root, and Marissa teaches a beautiful integrative approach to the nervous system, anatomy, healing, and the unique gifts that the pelvic bowl has to offer us. Her approach moves from the individual to the collective, with a clear vision for how our own embodiment translates to collective healing and liberation. I found I developed more proprioceptive awareness of this area, as well as emotional and spiritual connection to my root and my purpose.”

”During a big transition in my life Root Embodiment provided me with a pathway back home to my body that was so very necessary. I was able to restore my body’s ability to both fall and stay asleep, I’m so grateful! I am also simply amazed at how deeply transformative Marissa’s courses always seems to be. She is eloquent on a magical level, wise and embodies fluidity.”

”I learned even more how interconnected the nervous system is to the pelvis. I love doing somatic and movement practices together, with other people. Womb and pelvic work is helping guide me back to a place I probably have never known, but more and more I'm becoming open to returning to. Thank you Marissa <3”
